Lauren was sitting on one of the school's many staircases. A book was open on her lap and she was busily reading, blue eyes interested and long blonde hair pulled up into a ponytail. Lauren was absent-mindedly toying with one of her dangly earrings.

He was late. That was all there was to say. He was late, and turning up now wouldn't make any difference. Sure, he'd catch the last of the lecture, get his assignment, but that absent mark would remain in place.
Why even bother? He'd get the assignment off of someone in the commons later. It really was a shame that it was his last class for the next three hours. He'd make sure to make his next class.
He was on his way to the library, if someone had caught that his class was ditched, accidental or not, he'd have a liable excuse, wouldn't he? Doing some pick-me-up research, and lost track of time. At least that way, the punnishment wouldn't be too severe.
He skipped some stairs as he headed up, glancing up only once, to catch sight of a rather pretty girl, sitting up on the steps, and reading. Wasn't that just serene? Useually, he'd skip a girl like that. The prey was too easy, but he was really bored that day. And upset for missing his class. Maybe talking to her could prove itself amusing.
"Hey," he said, as he took a seat next to her. "Watchya reading?"

Lauren looked up, and let her hand fall from her eaerring. "Oh, just re-reading Eldest. I don't have a class for a few hours yet, so I'm just killing time 'cuz my bestfriends are off somewhere together...probably making out in a broom closet, or something." Moving to pick up her bookmak, which was in between them, Lauren's hand softly brushed the older boy's hand and calf.

He really didn't care. He didn't know her friends, and based on what he sensed from her tone, he didn't care to know them, either. No, not because they left her alone, to read some boring book, on the staircase. He actually thought something like that was quite funny. She sure knew hope to pick 'em, didn't she? However, he gave a slight nod, as she continued to talk.
...probably making out in a broom closet, or something.
Boy, was it easy for him to picture a pair of lesbians, getting hott with each other in some broom closet. The little fantasy was quite exciting, really. "Are they, now?" He had almost asked where he could find the little duo, until his sense kicked in. Yeah, Victor, only in your dreams would you be lucky enough to run into some girl that wuold reveal the wearabouts of some lesbians. She's talking about a heterosexcual pair, you numbnut!
She reached for her bookmark, and Victor followed her with her eyes. He felt the brush against his hand, and calf, before she lifted herself back up. It was all he could do not to roll his eyes. What did he tell everyone? She was further proof that his words were true.
Still, that didn't mean he couldn't have a little fun with her, did it? He smirked, inwardly, as he thingyed his head to his side. Eyes on the book, pretending to be interested. Psh! Like he ever, really, spent his free time reading up on some... well, reading. He had almost reached for her hand, kiss it maybe? Do your general cliche flirting, perhaps?
The possibility that such regular acts would win her affection, and that was a little annoying. Too bad she wasn't taken already. She might have acted a bit more civil about the whole flirting thing. She tried to make it not seem so obvious, he had to give her that. But the fact that she was starting to flirt so early in their conversation...
...Too desperate for words.
He cleared his throat, as he scratched the back of his neck. Pretending to be a bit nervous about the entire counter might make her more aggressive. And, single or not, he liked aggresiveness in a woman. "The name's Victor. Victor Hylphelia."

"Are they, now?"
"Yeah, Greg and Bri only recently got together."
"The name's Victor. Victor Hylphelia."
Lauren closed her book and smirked at him. "Really, now? I'm Lauren, Lauren Kaufman. If you don't know the name, perhaps the fact that I was WCA's champion for the Tri-Wizard Tournament will ring a bell." He thought she was flirting, and that annoyed her. She wasn't so easy to win, and for a wandering eye like him, she might not be won at all.

Me-ow... She had a fork in that pretty little tongue of hers, didn't she? Didn't matter. If she was so quick to ruin his fun, he'd find another sorce of amusement. Not all girls could be won, and losing ever once in a while wasn't going to do anything to shoot his high thoughts of himself down.
Better luck next time, but lets try this little experiment...
He quirked a brow, "And if what they say is true, you didn't exactly win that tournament, did you? Heard the Brits stole the victory. How aweful that must have been: Returning to school a failure."
Of course the sunny little students of this school probably gave her a pat on the back for the effort tried. Disgusting. "I doubt I'd be able to handle the shame," he said with mock sympathy.

Yeah, but I came in second. That's better than what the only b oy running got.
Probably got distracted by your easy attributes, Victor thought, as he returned her sneer.
What shame? I'm happy I even got picked!
Had Victor known about this tournament, he was pretty sure Lauren would have never even be concitered as the cream of the crop. She couldn't even detect his minor insult, for crying out loud! "Yeah, you would be," He mumbled, becoming bored with the topic at hand. This is what was really the shame: A beautiful girl without an ounce of intelligence.
A complete waste.
Maybe if he left now, she wouldn't even notice. He looked at her, studying her for a moment, before his eyes wandered down towards the steps. Nah. Sure she'd catch the drift, but risking her running a little motor mouth on how he acted towards her wasn't something he was willing to prepare for. Still, he wasn't going to talk. Let her chose the next route their conversation will take...
And he hoped it would be something even minorly interesting.

Lauren resisted a sigh. She'd just caght sight of the Vizcaino shield on his robes. Great, a snobby guy who thinks only of sex...how wonderful, she thought, sarcastically.
She saw his glance and raised one eyebrow, "Interested?" she asked, looking him over. "Because I'm certainly not."
Re: A Chance Meeting {Victor} « Reply #9 on Apr 26, 2006, 4:13pm »
Interested?
Victor looked up at her, wearly. He couldn't even pretend to be interested anymore. Besides, he knew where this was heading. Her tone wasn't offering any friendliness. Not that it mattered, this triumph would have offered little victory for him... And Victor always needed a challenge to feel any sort of accomplishment.
Because I'm certainly not.
Ouch. That one stung.. Not. Victor could only laugh. How cute! She was trying to be snarky, wasn't she? Oh, she could use a few tips with that. It realy wasn't anything he'd be ashamed of. Actually, if he would have played his cards differently. the convesation might be taking a utopian road by this point.
He slowed his laughter down, and looked at her, bright eyed. "Oh, Merlin!" He sighed, as he joined his hands together, elblows propping on his legs, before he licked his lips. "Not interested, huh? I'm sorry, sweetheart, but why even point that out? And here I thought we were just having a conversation amongst possible friends."
Lauren Kaufman wasn't his type. Well, not really.
"If you would have wanted me you to pretend to have an interest in you, get you a bit more conversations going, have your name populate the rumor mill; then by all means: you should have asked."
Victor grinned that grin, and stood up. "Unfortunately, I don't believe I should waste any more of my time here. You see, sweets, every second I spend with you is killing brain cells - much like drugs. You're not something I'd want to get addicted to."

Lauren pursed her lips, giving him a sour look. So she wasn't having a great day with being social, so what? She had two best friends that were better than any friend he might be, and that's all she needed.
"Really, I could have sworn I'd lost several brain cells the minute you sat down. Don't let me take away yours and leave."

Did she really think that would make him stay? Any other circumstances, it would have. People not wanting him around always seemed to draw him to them. Much like a moth to a flame, except he never accepted the burn. He walked down one of the steps, before he turned around and gave her a big smile.
Kneeling, he reached over and, somewhat roughly, pinched her right cheek. "Aren't you just a doll?" He ased, before ruffling her hair up a bit. "I'm sure I'll be seeing around, Lauren," He coughed as he spoke her last name, "Kaufman."
So he didn't make his trip to the Library. His class was still going, and he had nothing to do. At least he had those moments of entertainment. Today wasn't a complete waste after all.

Lauren snarled silently at his descending back and rubbed where he pinched her cheek. She knew it would probably be red, her fair skin always had that sort of reaction. She smoothed down her hair, happy he'd actually taken the hint and left! He had been starting to get annoying. She lifted her book to her lap, opened it, and began reading as the stair began to move.
((well, that was fun, though are charries didn't seem to click very much.))
